Good Faith System

Do you remember sending Suzie’s a check in the mail? Most probably don’t, but some do!

Selling CBD comes with some challenges, and those challenges were even more pronounced in 2017.  

Back in the day, we naively set up a PayPal account to take credit cards on our website and lasted all of 24 hours before they shut us down and banned us for life.  

Selling CBD products was prohibited by all the major credit card companies, and the “high-risk” merchants who were processing cards were sketchy and charged crazy rates

How were we going to run an e-commerce site without taking cards..?

Putting our heads together, we came up with our “Good Faith System”.

Customers would fill out a survey indicating what products they wanted and share their shipping information.

We would take that survey and manually create an invoice and a shipping label and then ship them their product with an invoice and pre-addressed return envelope.

It was labor intensive, hard to manage, and clunky in every way. But we didn’t get stiffed.

We were blown away by the rate at which people paid their bills, and they were blown away that we would ship hundreds of dollars to complete strangers and put our faith in them that they would pay.  

An unexpected highlight of this archaic system was reading the handwritten notes and fawning over the pictures that people included with their payment. We quickly built an entire corkboard wall to display these heartwarming sentiments and that wall still sits in our office today.  

Thankfully, we eventually got real credit card processing on the site, and we can operate like a normal business. But we still have customers who reach out sharing that they remember mailing us a check back in the day! 

While the original “Good Faith System” has been retired, we still have a good faith offering to our customers and their pets: If your pet could benefit from Suzie’s products, but you can’t currently afford them, please reach out and let us know just a little bit about your animal and situation.  

While there are limits to how much we can give, we are always open to seeing what we can do.
