Happy National Pitbull Awareness Month! We love our bully breed pups here at Suzie’s and know first-hand that awareness is crucial to fight the misconceptions about these dogs.
In fact, the term “Pit Bull” isn’t actually a recognized breed! The American Kennel Club recognizes the American Pit Bull Terrier officially but “Pit Bull” is used commonly to refer to any bully breed dog with physical traits like a muscular build and blocky head!
As part of our efforts to recognize this important month, today’s Edu Wednesday is about how CBD for dogs can help some of the health challenges that Pit Bulls/bully breed dogs are especially prone to.
Stress
Bully breeds are known for loyalty which makes them incredible companion animals. However, this also means some experience high levels of stress from separation anxiety.
CBD can help create a pattern of comfort that reduces separation anxiety. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain – making your pet feel more calm and safe.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip dysplasia is a genetic disease that occurs when the hip joints function incorrectly, resulting in arthritis. Unfortunately, bully breed dogs are predisposed to this condition.
CBD may be helpful as a preventive measure or to assist if this condition is already in place. CBD can help reduce the pain and inflammation in hip dysplasia to allow your dog greater mobility and comfort!
Skin issues
Bully breed dogs are particularly prone to skin issues that are due to allergies, irritation or infections.
CBD fights the inflammation that is often at the root of these issues and provides pain relief from any irritated areas. CBD oil is a great way to internally fight these issues while CBD salve can be used topically for immediate external relief!
