How to Help Pets Adjust Post-Quarantine?

During quarantine, we all got used to our new co-workers. Co-workers that demand treats, belly rubs, and unending affection. These co-workers also got used to the ultimate pet dream - their owners being home all the time.

Now, as many owners return to their workplaces, our pets may be confused about the change. After all, they weren’t sent an email or in a Zoom meeting about returning to work. Because of this, owners may see an increase in separation anxiety and anxious behaviors.

Some of the anxious behaviors you may see in your pets are change in appetite, extra vocalization, scratching or chewing entries and exits, destructive behavior, over-grooming, or other obsessive behaviors. These changes may be concerning for pet owners, but there are many things you can do to help them ease back into a routine.

How to Help

Creating a Space For Your Dog

One of the first steps in this process is creating a space your pet can seek out to feel safe. Make sure to encourage them to use this space while you are home, so they will be more likely to use it when you are not. This space can be a crate or a separate room, just make sure it is the quietest part of the house.

Dedicate time For Exercise

Once you have this space for your pet, the next step is what you can do before leaving for the day. Giving your pet time to exercise beforehand can be one of the best things you can do to leave them calm. When you provide them with breakfast, including CBD for pets, it can be a huge help in the process. In addition to calming your pet in the moment, CBD delivers a sense of well being that, when given frequently, can help assure them over time that there is no need to be anxious.

Keeping Them Occupied While Your Gone

Once you have provided a routine for success before you leave for the day, it is essential to consider what you can leave with them to help in your absence. Studies have shown that playing reggae, classical music, or soothing podcasts can be an auditory help to your pet. Another great tool is providing an environment that will preoccupy them.

Returning to work is going to be a big adjustment for pets and pet parents alike. However, if you create a plan and routine for your pets, you can find a new normal together! Be sure to read our blog for more helpful hints when it comes to our pets.
